This blogpost is a visual tribute to the work of our staff in Khartoum, Neimat Issha and Adila Osman, as they deliver our teacher training program for primary school teachers working in deprived communities in Khartoum. The program is carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and is funded by The British and Foreign School Society. Below, trainees discussing their lesson plans.

The scenes below capture moments from our life skills training sessions; the first of three teacher training components covered in our program.
This part of the program aims to provide teachers with the skills they need to develop their students’ perceptual, emotional, and social capacities so they can successfully handle the challenges they will face in their young lives. Building self-confidence in their students, enabling them to express and manage their feelings, organize their time, work in a team, together with problem solving and creative thinking, are core elements of the program. Trainees reported after the sessions that one of the many things they had learnt was that these life skills need to be integrated across the board into all their classes.

Below, students enjoying more creative and stimulating classes. Many told assessors that they followed their trainee teachers’ lessons better and enjoyed them more.

The training sessions took place at the teacher training center at Abu Seid teaching centre as it is equidistant for all the trainee groups. It is also spacious enough to accommodate all the activities included in the program while following Sudanese Covid-19 prevention measures. Most importantly, the girls’ elementary school attached to the centre enables our trainees to give their observed lessons applying their new skills on site.

Above and below, students and trainees practice their newfound skills in managing and overcoming feelings of anger.
