In the week when the Taliban once again cast a dark shadow over the future of girls’ education in Afghanistan, this blogpost celebrates the intellectual and imaginative worlds liberated by primary schooling for girls in Sudan, where educational opportunity is highly valued. فيلم شارع المدرسة School Road is an evocative 8-minute film directed by Razan Hashim (subtitled in English), dedicated to the joys and endless possibilities of being a schoolgirl.

The road to school for many girls in Sudan is a hard one – see the UNICEF overview below. And with every month that the Covid-19 pandemic continues to rob Sudanese of their livelihoods, fewer girls will return to school and their horizons narrow.
In Women’s Education Partnership, we work to provide elementary and primary school opportunities to the most disadvantaged of Sudanese families.
